June 19, 2023 – Me, Myself, and I

A TPOL is one of the things that makes PLP so unique and different. TPOL stands for Transition Presentation Of Learning. It’s a lot like an MPOL, we present to a teacher and at least one family member about our learning. An MPOL is about half of the year and a TPOL is a presentation on the whole year. This is my TPOL;

Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.

The driving question for this TPOL is “Why do you think you are ready to advance to the next grade level?” I would like to start out by saying that I am ready to go into grade 9. I’ve learned and grown so much this year.

One project that really felt like a milestone this year was Oregon. Oregon was obviously very exciting. It was the first field study and everybody was excited to see what it was all about. I’ll admit that I was a bit nervous. We were travelling out of the country without our parents which was a first for me. It was a big growing point for me because I definitely wouldn’t have been able to do that last year. And it was really fun. We sang to Taylor Swift for 9 hours straight which is basically my dream. Then we went zip lining. It was the most learning and fun I’ve had in a week.

Another project that really shows my growth is the exhibitions. Exhibitions are a really big part of PLP. Coincidentally, they were thing that I dreaded most for this year. At the end of grade 7, I would have rather done 10 hours of homework than talk to adults. Admittedly, the first exhibition didn’t go very well. My final project wasn’t really good, and I had no idea how to decorate the room and transform it like we were supposed to do. Shoutout to the grade 9’s that were in our group because they totally saved the exhibition.

Obviously I learn’t something because the spring exhibition went much better than the winter exhibition. Our group worked well together and pulled it off, and it looked really good. The best part of it all is that we did it all ourselves. No teacher or older student had to come in and save us, we just figured it out. There were even some parts that I enjoyed.

This year has completely changed my learning. When we first set up our iPad’s in June, I remember how frustrated I got. I think I even came close to tears when I tried to set up my Apple ID. Now I can make animations Keynote, make a book, and even a semi-successful video game. This year has definitely been challenging at times, but I’ve done it and I’ve survived.
