These past few weeks we’ve been taking a look at the renaissance. This was super interesting. We looked at the art, culture, government, Church, and much more. We learned how to take proper notes and how to record sources. Our finished product was a triptych. A triptych is a 3-panel artwork invented in the renaissance. We did this by photoshopping and creating something we’re proud of. This is what I did.
Ideas from Europe and Asia changed the wold by changing people’s ideas of what life could be and what they could aspire to.
It’s crazy to think of all things invented in the renaissance. Innovations measuring time, education, the printing press. And all in one time! But the innovations in the reanaissnace aren’t just amazing because they weren’t popular then. They’re amazing because those things paved the way for everything that’s comme after it. And believe me, there’s a lot. So here’s a window into my thinking about the reanaissance.
The renaissance. A golden age of arts, culture, and so much more. But there are some specific things have really made an impact. First of all I think that education really made a change. During the renaissance learning flourished. People were curious and taught other people what they learned. Basically, people were taught how to think. This is why I included a book in my panel. Another impactful thing in the renaissance was the church. Before the renaissance Church ruled peoples lives. There was one way to believe, one way to worship, one way to get into heaven. The renaissance was the birth of religious freedom. People learned how to express themselves differently and that they didn’t have to do everything the pope or a priest said. Another huge thing was art. Art is such a big thing because it teaches us about the renaissance. Without this art we couldn’t look back and see what people were thinking, we coudln’t understand what it was like then. Art gave us a concrete idea of the renaissance. These 3 things made a huge impact on the world as we know it.
Our life would be so different without the renaissance. But let’s look back and imagine that for a second. In the renaissance people believed that God was the center of everthing. The solution to everything. In that day anything that happened to you was just God’s will. God was still a big part of people’s life in the renaissance but for the first time they could change their faith to what resembles today. As opposite to the reanaissance, learning wasn’t a part of life then. That’s why I chose such a poor building for the school. It’s also why I added only 1 student. Because then was likely there would be only 1 student back then. I also added a book to this side of the triptych. But I chose a torn and beat up book. Another thing that I added to the triptych was just an overall sense of hardship. The poor school building, the fact that the person’s dress has all the finery taken off displays the classic feeling that people just weren’t enlightened in that age. This was all a reality for people back then.
Everybody’s life is impacted daily by the renaissance. I chose to show this in a school setting again. I decided on this setting because whereas they have changed a lot over time, I wanted a common theme. Once again, I added books. But I added lots. Because now we have that many books! Another thing I added was those science beakers. I wanted to express that because of the renaissance the ideas of science are taught to everyone. The last thing I added of significance is the phone. This is for a lot of reasons. 1. The clock on the phone. Clocks were a big invention in the renaissance. 2. Another big asset of phones is how easy it is to spread information with them. I think that this happened because of the printing press in the renaissance. People learned that they could spread information more easily and it just evolved from there.
I know that I’ve certainly learned a lot about everything in the short amount of time we’ve been studying the reanissance. Not just about why the innovations were important back then, but how it’s still relevant today and how we can link these things to almost anything we do today. I’m certain that our would be so different than it is now. I hope day triptych displayed that and this explanation helped too.
