Gosh what a silly project!
Lots of future looking, and learning about myself, and maybe some career planning, who knows.Â
I do. And I’m going to tell you about it
Thinking with the end in mind
We knew rather early on in the project that we would be doing a dragons den pitch for this project. I wanted to use one of the seven habits of highly successful people (hyperlink), thinking with the end in mind, to make sure I was prepared for the final product.Â
This culminated in my flash cards.Â
Most of the time in this project I was thinking how each piece of learning helps me with writing these flash card notes. I started the notes with chat-gpt, to get some ideas, and I watched some highlights of Dragons Den and Shark Tank. Although our project does not have not quite the same level of stakes, I wanted to learn the Professionalism.
Throughout the next two weeks I was working on my flash cards, watching other’s progress, especially those who tended to excel. I wanted to have a clear storyline, so I tried to put my pitch on a storyboard, but it didn’t quite work. It didn’t make sense to me, so I had to find another way to create a story.Â
My way of finding a clear way to make this presentation clear and smooth was by looking back at what mr Scheui said during his presentation.Â
I chose the following for my flash card topics
Intro
Work Experience
How I am bettering myself
Who I am
Postive mindset
Conclusion
After establishing the card titles, I spent my time filling them in.Â
My pitch and the photos of my flash cards and feedback forms – I did not need the flash cards
My pitch went well. I came well dressed, confident, and I showed the judges what I was capable of, but I was not perfect.
Firstly, and most noticeable in the moment, I was nervous, and my hands were a bit sweaty.Â
Also, I was not prepared at all for the judges to take a second to read my resumé and cover letter. This wasn’t terrible, because it gave me a moment to compose myself, but it was still unexpected when I thought I would start talking, and both the judges are head in paper.
In the end, despite my setbacks, I was well practiced and confident during my presentation. I know what it looks like if I don’t practice and this was much better. I had great flow and I didn’t need my flash cards at all. I still think they helped in preparing me, but I only looked at my flash cards to double check. I think I would’ve been better off without flash cards during the presentation, but they were crucial in organizing my thoughts in the creation of my presentation.Â
How does this affect my plans for the future, and Post SecondaryÂ
This project was all future looking. We learned who we were earlier this year in the HYPERLINKED HERE project. I have not thought much about university, nor did we discuss it in this project, but it was pointed in that direction.Â
Mostly because it shined a light for me to look into what I was interested in. I have heard some suggestions from peers and adults in my life, but have not looked very much myself. It’s not an active action, but rather a reflection as a go through with my day, looking at what I enjoyed, what I didn’t enjoy, and why. So far, I’ve learned that science is pretty fun and interesting.
Although we didn’t look into universities, we did do some quizzes that revealed some possible careers for us. Here are the results of the quizzes and my reflection on the results.
Conclusively – How have I changed as a result of this project
In this project I learned to be professional. I think that contributed greatly to my overall performance at the end, and it came a result of thinking with the end in mind.
I came into the final pitch informed, prepared and confident. That was success for me.
Thanks to my judges, Ms. Wendy And Mr. Jim. Thanks to Ms Madsen for the project.
