F A I L

First Attempt In Learning

I had a F A I L.

Probably a fixable one. Maybe not. I don’t know because the project is over, and I threw away my final product.

You don’t know what the project is yet, so lemme explain.

We first learned about how electricity flows, and practiced creating circuits. Lots of theory and generally understanding the science behind electrical circuits. It didn’t seem to be the focus

The main focus of this project took about 2 weeks, and it was creating our own versions of the game ‘operation’. My first idea was to take climbing holds off of a wall, but I couldn’t think of any reason to motivate the player, so instead I had the idea of putting in some cardboard climbing holds, and using them to connect a circuit. It was a flawless idea. Or was it.

It probably was but I’ll never know. We spent a few days sort of getting set up our boxes, with nobody doing any wiring yet. I worked sort of cluelessly in terms of pace because I had no clue as to when the project was going to be over, or when my deadline was. I would’ve been more focus and motivated. I worked without intention due to the lack of a deadline.

By the second week most people were doing wiring. I was a bit behind, but still determined. I’d finished the designs by then, and needed to start with the electrical parts. I spent a while trying to figure out the tutorial given to us, but then realized that it wouldn’t help me at all because my box was using a different concept. I did the wiring just hoping that it would work, got a light, and a battery and the idea seemed promising. Everything was falling into place

All I needed to do was test it. I had a class and a half, what could go wrong?

Crap hits the fan.

First, I clean up the workspace.

Come back, and I try to assemble the pieces off camera.

A piece is lost. Well no big deal I’ll make a new one. Get the supplies, build, clean up come back. Attempt two at assembly.

Another piece is gone. Jeez this sucks, well again; get the supplies, build, clean up come back.

And times up. One class left

Last class, and I am tired as heck. This is the last class before a five day weekend, and I am fried. Time to get to work.

As usual, I lost a piece, no clue how it fell out of a sealed cardboard box, but it doesn’t take that long. Boom, bam I need to film the assembly NOW. Luckily I found a nice spot to film and got to work. Put it together and the light isn’t turning on. I had fifteen minutes left, so I gave up. I didn’t want to deal with it anymore. I made a little edit to show what it would’ve been like

In conclusion, calm down when you’re frustrated, and know your deadlines.

I could’ve worked harder, or stuck to the same path as the rest of the class by making an operation board-game, but I chose differently and I learned from it.

Thats a win in my books.
