So, as part of our unit on civilizations and myths, we have a group project that involves making up a civilization, writing a creation myth, and sewing a quilt.
Yeah, I was a little confused about that last one at first, but after a lesson in interpretation and representation, I think it’s going to be a cool way to wrap up the unit. Each square of the quilt represents one scene from the myth, and then the entire quilt will show the whole myth. So every person in the group created a picture, and we’re turning those into quilt squares now.
However, before we got to make quilt squares, or even pictures, we had some work to do. The first notes for my group’s myth looked something like this:
We had a lot of editing, revising and explaining to do, and a lot of rejections to get through. I would tell you how many, but I lost count somewhere around the billionth. Oh, well– eventually we got our story straight, so to speak, and were able to move on to working on pictures. The storyboard that finally did get accepted looked like this:
Although a lot of the details were lost in the translation during the story’s transformation into pictures, the main storyline is still there, and although the quilt isn’t finished yet, I have a feeling it’s going to be pretty cool. Speaking of cool, I’m a little chilly– I think I’m going to go curl up with a quilt.
Toodles!
