The metaphor machine is the first major project we have done this year in school and it is a massive one. We have reached about the halfway point of our project and it is time to do another Blogpost. This will be about the progress and what we have done so far in the creation this. First of all was the timeline that we created to base our machine off of. There were three parts to this timeline, the process of what happened in the revolution and when it happened, what we were going to represent in our machine and how it related Crane Brinton’s theory. If you don’t know what that is then you can go check my Blogpost that I made earlier on it here. The first part of the timeline was a lot of research and trying to find the biggest parts of the revolution and how they connected with one another. This greatly helped with the understanding that our group had on our revolution and overall helped us with creating the machine.
Secondly was the creation of the metaphors that we would use on our machine. I think that the first part of this project greatly helped on this part because it gave us a much better understanding of our revolution and we found it much easier to come up with metaphors that we could use. Another thing we did that greatly helped us come up with metaphors was some exercises that we did in class. This included things like the teacher showing us a picture or a video and telling us that we had to think up of a good, meaningful metaphor to go with the picture or video. This explained metaphors to us and helped us come up with more meaningful metaphors. You can click here for a link to a blog post I did on them.
It was then finally time to start gathering the materials necessary for our machine. For our machine these were things such as wood, paint, pipes and potatoes. Yes I said potatoes. These all represented things like the great famine and the downfall of the present government. But I’ll go into more detail with those things in another Blogpost a bit later on. Right ow we are in the middle of creating our machine and man is it a lot of work. So far we’ve done a back board and a base and put a couple of pipes on the back. We have done a lot of it but there is even more for us to do we’re going to get back to typing, filming and building. I hope you enjoyed this quick update on our project and keep a eye out for another Blogpost explaining everything on our machine.
