We have just finished one of our large projects for the last couple of terms. It is the making fantasy real assignment. We started this back in term and it has been a long project. A big part of this unit was our field study to Orlando, Florida. Here we went to the most fantasy filled place available, Disney world. We studied different questions throughout the unit and did a couple different things to answer these. Everything led up to the video that we made at the end of the unit. The goal of the video was to answer our driving question. What draws us to imaginary worlds?
For the video we each got assigned a ride or attraction at Disney world. Mine was from Hollywood studios and is called Star Tours. As you can probably guess by the name it is based in the Star Wars franchise by George Lucas. This is one of the more popular rides in Hollywood studios and for good reason. This attraction is pretty much a Star Wars flight simulator. You are taking a ride across the galaxy being chased by the evil dark side and the presentation and build up is just amazing.
Before we went to Disney world we had to learn a lot more about our driving question first. So for this we had to learn some of the reasons why. Why people are drawn to imaginary worlds. We had an essay to write on this question and it took a while to get just the right thing going. Then it was to the storyboard where we had to get everything down just the way it was going to be in the video. This took lots of revision as it was the complete base for our video. When we went to Florida we would have no time for planning so this had to be a plan of what were going to do so we could just do it.
Finally came the video which was our final project for the terms and this unit. There was only one chance to get everything we needed while we were at our ride so we had to make sure we got all we needed. We got all the necessary shots and interviews we needed along with a couple of other things we might need. Then when we got back it was time to start to create our video. This was a very long process and we went through several revisions. But in the end I think everyone did an amazing job with their work and it all turned out very well.
This whole unit was a load of fun and the whole class had fun doing it. The field study to Florida was lots of fun and the whole class learned a lot while we were their and had fun while doing it. With the unit itself we learned a lot about the human mind and how it acts. We learned some good things for us to do to keep up productivity and I’m sure more if us will be doing things we learned in the future.
