DEveryone has to work at some point in their life and what you do and what you at those first few jobs you have could be the difference between being safe and having a good time or hurting yourself and hating the work that you do. For our most recent unit in maker time we have been learning about workplace safety and how we can be safe while doing things at work. I have two jobs myself so I found this unit very helpful and I learned a lot about my work and what happens if I am hurt or if something goes wrong I now know what to do. There have been a few worksheets we have done in this unit and for this post I have also made a visual called a tableau (which is several photos of the same person merged into one photo so it looks like there are many if the same person in one photo) that will be at the bottom of this post.
For the first part of this unit we watched a couple of videos that helped us understand some of the incidents that had occurred in BC while people were working and how those people are now. These videos really show that if you are not careful while working and do not listen to the rules that are in place something very bad can happen and you could be affected for the rest of your life. There was also a video that explained how new youth workers are going to be trained when applying for construction but some of the things that teach could crossover to other jobs. For example communication and knowing your surroundings are very important in all jobs that you will apply for.

The worksheets we did were about some of things at work that would affect our health. For example what was the maximum sound levels that we were allowed to be around? Or, if we did not feel safe doing the work did we have the right to refuse it. These were the small things that helped me understand more about the work I do and how I can improve how I work.
Some of the other things that we wrote down on these sheets was what work we did now and how we were trained and whether or not they gave us the information we need to do the job. These question made me realize all of the things that could go wrong while working and it made me think back to all the bad things that could have happened at my job. For the special visual I mentioned earlier I have created something called a tableau that shows some unsafe ways people can act in a kitchen.
