Railroad Blogpost

Hello everyone and welcome back to a new blog post, today I will be talking about the creation process of a project we recently did in class. This project was on the rail roads and what impact they had on the industrial revolution. The first thing I did in this project was research, lots and lots of research. The three main things I found that railroads had on the industrial revolution were the transportation of food, workers and resources. After this I then wrote my script and based it on those three things.

Project script

The time of the industrial revolution was a time of great innovations and fantastic minds coming together to change the way we see the world now. One of the biggest impacts that made the industrial revolution what is today was the use of the railways. The first train was invented by a man called George Stephenson. He had decided to apply the new steam engine to a larger vehicle and see if it could work. It could not have worked better. Lots of wealthy business men and politicians saw this and got together to create a massive rail way system in England, this later spread to other countries around the world. This greatly helped the industrial revolution with tasks such as shipping things like food, supplies and workers.

First of all and maybe the most important one is the transportation of resources to fuel the revolution. This includes things such as coal and iron, which were the main resource of revolution. Without these things there would have been a massive delay in the revolution or it might not have happened at all. Using carts and non motorized vehicles were much slower and it was cheaper to use the railways. In the industrial revolution this means a lot and luckily the railways were there to help. With out these resources the industrial revolution would probably have never happened and we would most likely be in a different place then today.

The second thing is the transportation of the workers that the revolution used build the inventions. Most of the workers that came into the city came on the train and that came in fast as there was a high demand for them. Now you may be wondering where all the people came from that started to work in the city. Most of the people that came to work in the city used to be farmers. There was an invention created called a horse drawn seed drill that could farm things more accurately and faster than people so that eventually took over the farms. This was created by a man called Jethro Tull who wanted to create a better way of farming for the world. After this most of the people who owned farm land adopted this method and all the peasants lost their work. All the people who needed work had no where else to go so they had to go to the cities. Because of this, the revolution had a near endless supply of workers. All of these people took the train into the city for quick work and a new life.

Lastly is the transportation of food needed for the workers. Because all of these people came into the city not a lot of them had enough food. The rail ways greatly helped with this getting lots of food fast and fresh to the workers. Without this the workers would probably have had a major shortage of food and might have refused to work. This could have resulted in the non existence of the revolution or a major delay. This was cheaper, faster and kept the food fresh longer so it was the obvious solution to help the revolution.

As you can see the real way systems helped out the industrial revolution in many ways. It was this that supported the revolution and what kept it going as long as it did and helped the things we have to day.

End of script

I was pretty happy with the first draft of my script but there are always things to improve on. After my script I then got my images in the order I would have them in my presentation. I then went back to edit my script to flow more smoothly with the images. But I’m sorry to say I forgot to keep the drafts of my scripts so I only have the final one. Then after all this came the hardest part. Using the explain everything app. I had never used this before so it took a while for me to figure out everything. The first thing I did in this app was create every one of the slides that I would use in the presentation. This was about 12 slides overall. Then it was time to do the voiceover. I went back to the first slide and did the really handy split screen feature that was added to iPads with my script on one side and explain everything on the other. I then recorded my voice reading straight form my script and that proved to be quicker and easier to use. I did this for all the slides left in my presentation.

Draft 1

Next class it was time for our work to be critiqued, but unfortunately I was sick for a couple days and couldn’t make it to the class. So at the weekend I messaged my teacher and she said to ask my family for their thoughts on my project. My mom said to edit the script a little bit so I did that and changed some pictures to go with the slightly new script.

Draft 2

Draft 3

I did this a couple more times until I got the feel I wanted from the presentation. I then messaged my friend in class and he sent me some good pointers that I had to work on most important of which was that I had to add some animations to go with my script and the photos. This made the presentation a bit more lively and better to look at.

Draft 4

It took me at least 30 minutes to figure out how to add animations on top of my voice over. But after what felt like an eternity I finally figured out how to do it. Then it was time to try and find some animations that could fit with my presentation. It was then time to try out the right movements that each figure would do to represent something. I showed this to my mom and my friend and they thought that it was good so I made it my final draft, I hope it is any way.

Draft 5

This project helped me learn a lot about rail ways and just how big their impact has been on modern life today. Without them we would most likely be in a very different place then toady. I hadn’t realized before what a huge part railways have played in the transportation of most things in the world and they still do a lot of things today that most people don’t realize.
