Why didn’t the angry farmer divorce his wife when she traded their prize milking cow for a book of poetry? Because he vowed to love her for butter or verse.

This project we just finished was about poetry and learning everything there is to know about how to write it and understand it. What I learned in this project is that poetry is just text that shows how you are, who you are, where you are and what you are thinking about. With what I just said I can answer the driving question for this project “How might I construct a text that shows who I am right now?”.

Now to start back to the beginning of the project. We were supposed to start it one week before it actually did start, but we had an extended vacation because everyone started getting Covid 19 again. I enjoyed heaving an extended vacation, mostly because I had family over. However, I would have liked to have an extra week to do this project (I’ve had some late nights doing homework).

The first thing we did in this project was an activity called “Become a poet”. In this activity, we got a poem given to us but it was cut up word by word and we had to put it back together. But we could put it back together in any way we wanted which made each group’s version of the poem very different. Some of them were about cooking dads, I’ll leave it at that.

Then we started learning poetry terms. The first two kinds of poems we learned were similes and extended metaphors. After learning what they were we had to write a poem using both terms and then put it into an Ebook that we will be putting all of our poems into. (The Ebook with all of our poems in it is the final product for this project).

We then kept learning different poetry terms and making poems using them. The two next poems we made were haikus and found poems. Then when finished we of course put them into the Ebook with the rest of them.

We then made a poem about imagery

then a sound poem

then an experience poem

then a personification poem

then a  self-portrait poem

We made more poems

Then injuries had by Greg Odem

Inside the Ebook, we had to include a form of text with each poem and an “ About Me” page with an “About Me” video to go along with it. We also had to add an audio clip of us talking about what is on the page and how it connects to our worldview. We also had to take a test on all the different terms that we learned about poetry. I think I did pretty good but as of when I’m writing this I don’t know yet.

If you are wanting to read the Ebook here is the link to it.

Now to conclude, this project only went on for 2 weeks and it would have been better to do it in three but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I cant wait to see how the Coffee house presentation goes on Wednesday. I am also intrigued to see how the grade 8’s did this project.
